Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
EFT is an incredible tool that has been used for about 10 years
to help people overcome a wide variety of physical and emotional
discomforts. It was designed and developed by Gary Craig, a Stanford
Engineer and in his own words "EFT is a Doorway to the new
Healing High-Rise."
The basic theory behind EFT is that
all negative emotions are caused by a disturbance in the body's
energy system.
It has been used with many different people and in many different
situations, including treating Vietnam veterans for severe post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fears and severe phobias, improving
sports performance, performance anxiety and addictions to cigarettes,
sugar and much, much more besides.
Emotional Freedom Technique is a combination of Eastern meridian
energy therapy and Western "psychology." Eastern "meridian"
therapy is usually known as acupuncture or acupressure and utilizes
specific access points along what are known as meridians that have
been mapped out on the body for five thousand years. These meridians
carry "chi" or life-force energy. When that "energy"
is blocked due to trauma (physical, emotional, chemical) the body
or emotions may react in a restricted fashion. That means that a
person may feel pain or emotional turmoil due to the blockage. When
the blockage is removed or resolved, the resultant turmoil is also
resolved or removed.
Unlike acupuncture, EFT doesn't use needles; instead it is based
on stimulating the major meridian points by tapping on them while
the client is tuned into the problem. It is a self help protocol,
designed for ease of use and so everyone can benefit from Emotional
Freedom Techniques without any knowledge of meridians.
I teach the basic EFT protocol to all of my clients so that they
can continue using it to gain emotional freedom in all areas of
their lives and though sometimes it may be necessary to return for
a one to one session with me, it will often be a useful tool to
let go of negative emotions in other areas of their lives apart
from the original presenting problem. Also by learning the protocol
it is often possible to have telephone backup in many situations.
When you learn how to use EFT, you will be able to identify the
issues that are holding you back. Then you will be able to eliminate
whatever uncomfortable emotions are behind your issues.
